Protection against bacteria in ‘stealth mode’

25/10: New CD Laboratory at Vetmeduni Wien fights pathogens that are difficult to detect.

It almost sounds like science fiction horror on a microscopic scale: many harmful bacteria have the ability to enter a kind of dormant state that makes them both ‘invisible’ to conventional detection methods and resistant to antibiotics and disinfectants – a danger to humans and animals, especially when it comes to infected food or feed. The new CD Laboratory for Detection and Reduction of Dormant bacteria at the Vetmeduni Vienna, headed by CD Laboratory Head Patrick Mikuni-Mester and supported by commercial partners Evonik Operations GmbH, VIVATIS Holding AG and SAN Group GmbH, is therefore researching the exact mechanisms of this ability of the pathogens in question in order to be able to detect and combat them even in their ‘hiding place’!
