We have already reported several times on Prof. Reisner, Head of the CD Laboratory for Sustainable SynGas Chemistry (active from 2012 to 2019), and his current breakthroughs at the University of Cambridge: His prototype called "artificial leaf" converts carbon dioxide and water into clean fuels (instead of sugar) and oxygen in the style of photosynthesis of plant organisms using only sunlight as an energy source.
Previously, concentrated CO2 was used for this purpose, but the latest successes of Erwin Reisner and his team (pictured from left: Reisner, Sayan Kar, Motiar Rahaman) now even allow the use of carbon dioxide found in the air instead, whereby plastic waste can also be converted into chemicals during this process: A huge step forward for sustainable fuel production!
