How can so-called ‘digital twins’ – virtual representations of physical systems and processes – be used to digitally map production facilities in real time, optimise processes and reduce errors, and how can simulation times be sufficiently reduced to meet industrial real-time requirements? It is precisely in this complex field that Head of Centre Christian Zehetner and his team, supported by commercial partner Salvagnini Maschinenbau GmbH, are conducting research at the new JR Centre for Advanced real-time models for digital twins of metal forming processes on the Wels campus of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria: The findings will contribute to greater productivity, efficiency and sustainability (through reduced scrap and longer machine lifespans) at lower costs, benefiting all parties involved.
