Implantable heart pumps have already helped numerous adult patients with cardiac insufficiency, but to date non-implantable, temporary pump systems have had to be used for children (due to their smaller size and low pump flows). Head of Laboratory Marcus Granegger and his team at the new CD Laboratory, supported by commercial partner Berlin Heart GmbH, are therefore working towards enabling the use of implantable blood pumps as a curative therapy with a low complication rate in children!
